Holiday Food Drive through December 9, 2023

The Congregational Church of Union, along with the Town Hall and Union Free Public Library, is hosting a holiday food drive to help our neighbors in need. There are collection boxes located at the Town Hall entry way, Library and Church. There will also be a box located by the employee outbuilding at the Transfer Station. The collection of NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS will continue through December 9. Please reach out to Pastor Tim Gilbert at (860)614-0388 if you are aware of anyone who may be in need.

Union awarded $400,000 STEAP Grant

UNION AWARDED STEAP GRANT Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), a state program managed by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM), has awarded Union a $400,000 grant for the reconstruction of Webster Road.

Veterans Day Observance, Friday, November 10, 2023

Join our Veterans Day Observance Ceremony on Friday, November 10 at 10:00 AM at the Town Green on Buckley Highway On Friday, November 10, the Town of Union will be holding a ceremony in honor of our veterans. The Union School students will be participating, along with other Town officials. Immediately after the Veterans Ceremony on the Town Green, there will be coffee and treats for our veterans at Union School. TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
