UNION BOARD OF EDUCATION October 14, 2015
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by A. Estell at 6:44 p.m.
PRESENT
A. A. Estell, C. Taylor, S. Martinez, J. Garden, J. Reardon, Supt., S. Jackopsic, Prin., & L. MacPherson, recording secretary. A. Blank arrived later. Also in attendance teachers & townspeople.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
J. Garden made a motion to approve the minutes of September 23, 2015. Seconded. Unanimously approved.
INDIVIDUALS TO BE HEARD
NONE
COMMUNICATIONS
Andrea Estell received a letter of resignation from Board member Patty Guardiani. C. Taylor made a motion to accepted her resignation with regret. Seconded. Unanimously approved.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
a. Superintendent's Report J. Reardon reported on the very productive meeting that was held with the staff today after school. Joe met with the Woodstock Supt Association. They discussed programs that are available to our students attending Woodstock Academy. He also met with the state concerning the ECS Grant, special education & personalized learning at the secondary level.
b. Principal's Report S. Jackopsic reported on the Smarter Balance Testing that our students took this past spring. Overall the students did very well. The Fire Department put on a great program for our students last week and we thank them for all that they do for our town. The dance on Friday will be a Western Theme. Combining the PreK & K has worked out very well.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Curriculum J. Garden explained the Teacher Evaluation Plan which is very detailed, so demanding & also has lots of value. This is an ongoing process.
b. Communication The forum set for Wed. Oct. 21 has been postponed.
c. Transportation No report
d. Personnel Teacher negotiations will start in Oct. 2015.
e. Building The heat was on last week

FINANCIAL REPORT
a. Review the bills. The bills were reviewed and everything was in order.
b. 2014-15 Budget Our town treasurer, A. Gaug, is working with Eastconn on our 2014-15 figures.
c. Budget 2015-16 As of October, 2015 we have additional tuition costs of $25,000 & special ed costs of $10,000.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Adopt State Approved Teacher Evaluation Plan J. Garden made a motion to accept the State Approved Teacher Evaluation Plan. Seconded by S. Martinez. Unanimously approved.
2. Accept Board of Ed member resignation discussed above
INDIVIDUALS TO BE HEARD
Members of the audience had a few questions about the students' schedules, curriculum and free time. S. Jackopsic addressed the questions. Foreign language & the art program were also addressed.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by C. Taylor to adjourn at 7:56 p.m. Seconded. Passed unanimously.
