September 7, 2016 Minutes

Union Free Public Library Board of Directors Meeting Minutes 9-7-16  Members present: Ellen Silbermann, Rose-Marie Pellerin, Jacqueline Capomacchio, Jen Morgis, Rose Novak, Library Director Cailin Rae, and Assistant Librarian Donna Jellen  

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.   

Secretary's Report • After Rose Novak read the 8-3-16 minutes, Ellen Silbermann made a motion to accept that the minutes read be passed. Jen Morgis seconded the motion. The motion passed.   Old Business • LOCIP Grant/Renovation Progress: Rose-Marie Pellerin reported that the installation of additional lighting has been sent out to bid. The work will be completed by Dec. 1. • Improved task lighting for the librarians' work area needs to be addressed as soon as possible.  • Ellen Silbermann will attend the Board of Selectmen's meeting and speak about the need for immediate lighting installation behind the librarians' desk. She will also address the need for rodent control.  • Old Home Day: Turnout for OHD 2016 venues including the library was down from the previous year.   New Business • Prospective New Board Member Gillian Zieger attended the meeting and introduced herself. The Board will conduct a vote via email. • Stefanie Jellen, representing Michaels' Arts and Crafts, gave a presentation on options for framing and preserving an original line drawing of the library building. The board compared products and prices. Ellen Silbermann made a motion to spend up to $300.00 to have the historic drawing custom framed and preserved. Jacqueline Capomacchio seconded the motion. All were in favor.  • Community Programs: Cailin Rae would like to meet with town seniors to find out what types of programs they might be interested in.  • Ellen Silbermann reported that Betty Kaleta, Jan Parsons' mother, passed away at the age of 100 years. Betty Kaleta was a staunch supporter of the UFPL, having served as Assistant Librarian for several decades. Donations in her memory are being sent to the library.  • Halloween Party: The board will decide on a date via email pending more information about the date of the Union School Association trick-or-treat party.   Treasurer's Report • OHD funds will be deposited in the First Niagara checking account.   Librarians' Report • Plant Sale: the sale raised $712.00 for the library.  • Summer Reading: Cailin Rae reported that over 80,000 pages have been read by participants in K-8. • Cailin Rae will look into purchasing rugs for the library walkways.  • Ellen Silbermann made a motion to spend up to $200.00 for a new phone to replace one in disrepair as well as a coffee maker for public use. Rose Novak seconded the motion. All were in favor.  

• Cailin Rae will begin completing the Annual Report. She reported that due to budget constraints, the state will not provide grant money this year.   

The next Board of Directors meeting will take place Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m.   

Ellen Silbermann motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 p.m. Jacqueline Capomacchio seconded, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
