Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes

March 6, 2017

Union, Connecticut

 

First Selectman Goodhall called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Attending:  Selectmen – Albert L. Goodhall, Jr., David Heck; Joseph Kratochvil; Public Works Director David Eaton

 

Persons to be heard: Jeffrey Anthony, Cemetery Sexton

 

The Town of Union has been awarded a grant from the Neglected Cemetery Account Grant Program, through the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management. The Board of Selectmen authorized First Selectman Goodhall to apply for and administer this grant.

 

Possible cemetery projects and reimbursement procedure were discussed.

 

Minutes from the last meeting were read. Selectman Kratochvil moved to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.

 

Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Kratochvil made the motion to pay the bills, excluding the Library bill from the State of Connecticut for back payment of fiber optic internet, pending more information; motion was seconded by Selectman Heck.  Vote was unanimous.

 

The Town Hall cleaning services were discussed. First Selectman Goodhall made a motion to increase the hourly wages for Carl Myers and Janice Parsons, retroactive from January 30, 2017, through the current payroll period, to $15.00 per hour, said amount to be re-visited following discussion with Mr. Myers and Ms. Parson.  Motion was seconded by Selectman Kratochvil. Vote was unanimous.

 

The Library LoCIP renovation project is complete. The wood floors have been finished.

 

Herbert Kingsbury, Chairman of the Board of Assessment Appeals, sent an inquiry to First Selectman Goodhall about replacing a board member who is unable to attend meetings this year. A replacement cannot be appointed with a resignation from the current BAA member. The Board of Selectmen agreed that First Selectman Goodhall write a letter requesting John Cunningham’s resignation, as he is unable to attend the meetings and a third member is needed.

 

First Selectman Goodhall gave an update regarding the crumbling foundations issue and meetings he has attended with CRCOG and NECCOG, including the Legislative Hearing held on February 28.

 

Motion to adjourn at 8:40 p.m. by First Selectman GoodhallHeck; seconded by Selectman Heck.   Vote was unanimous.
