Union Free Public Library Board of Directors Meeting Minutes 4-5-17
Members present: Ellen Silbermann, Jacqueline Capomacchio, Jen Morgis, Rose Novak, Gillian Zieger, Library Director Cailin Rae and Assistant Librarian Donna Jellen
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m.
Secretary’s Report • Rose Novak read the 2-8-17 meeting minutes. Ellen Silbermann motioned to accept the minutes as read. Jen Morgis seconded the motion, and it passed.
Old Business • CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) compliance: Cailin Rae has completed the funding request and will submit it after CEN (Connecticut Education Network) processes the information and arrives at a funding rate. • The library’s hardwood floors have been refinished.
New Business • Several leaks in the roof will need to be repaired. • 2017 Community Programs: Ellen Silbermann has called the Judge of Probate regarding an Elder Care and the Law workshop. • Quiet Corner Reads: This year’s novel is Christina Baker Kline’s A Piece of the World (2017). The author visit will take place at the Pomfret School, Tuesday June 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the library for $15. • The Annual Plant Sale will be held in June.
Treasurer’s Report • Banking: Rose Novak will meet with a Savings Institute Bank and Trust representative in order to obtain information regarding the transfer of the library’s checking account.
Librarians’ Report • Winter Read has been changed to “Spring Has Sprung”: Cailin Rae has created two activities. The first is “Shelf Talkers” where participants write a review of a book on a card that will be placed in front of the book on the shelf. The second activity is a library scavenger hunt that will be held during spring break. • Summer Reading 2017: The board discussed possibilities for the “Build a Better World” kick-off program such as a building challenge involving recycled materials.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m.
Ellen Silbermann made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 p.m. Gillian Zieger seconded the motion. It passed and the meeting was adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
