Selectmen’s Meeting July 17, 2017 Union, Connecticut
First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Attending: Selectmen – David D. Eaton., Mary E. Huda, David Heck
Persons to be heard: Tom and Joan Eames
Minutes from the last meeting were read. Selectman Huda moved to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.
Bills were presented for review. Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Mr. and Mrs. Eames expressed concern regarding the State budget not passing and the potential impact on the Town budget. The Town 2017-18 budget passed on May 23, using State information available at that time, regarding municipal aid in particular.
Following discussion regarding the annual town meeting, Selectman Huda made a motion to hold the Annual Town Meeting on the second Monday of May each year; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.
First Selectman Eaton proposed holding quarterly or bi-annual meetings with the heads of the Town Departments and Boards. The first meeting is set to be scheduled in September.
The Board discussed the option of Direct Deposit for Town Employees. Following confirmation of adequate participation, the Treasurer will begin the process to change to direct deposit, starting with the first payroll in January 2018.
Following discussion of the Simple IRA Employee Retirement Plan, Selectman Heck made a motion to change the broker of record from Matt Hill of Plan Members Security Corporation, to David Neal of Colburn and Meredith Corporation; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Payment to complete the Town Hall USDA loan was approved. The payment, in the amount of $76,343.83, will be delivered to USDA offices by Friday, July 21, closing out the Town Hall mortgage.
The Library slate roofing project is complete.
First Selectman Eaton, Board of Education Chair Andrea Estelle and Stephan Hartmann, of Ross Solar, will be meeting Wednesday, July 19, to discuss the solar agreements and plans for the Town Hall and Union School.
Motion to adjourn at 8:51 p.m. by Selectman Heck; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
