Union Free Public Library Board of Directors Meeting Minutes 5-16-18
 Members present: Ellen Silbermann, Rose Novak, Gillian Zieger, Bertha Syphers, Ed Capomacchio, and Library Director Cailin Rae
 
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. 
 
 
Old Business • Summer Reading Program kick-off: Cailin is in contract with Dinosaurs Rock. The program will be held from 12:30-2:30. There will be a presentation with giant fossils, fossil rubbings, loose fossil dig, shark tooth necklace making, and geode opening. • Cailin reviewed the Hoopla online service. It provides access to TV shows, movies, audiobooks, ebooks. Overdrive, through Bibliomation only offers audiobooks and ebooks. Cailin will obtain more information and the board will vote over email to sign a year long contract with Hoopla. • Self Defense Workshop: Cailin has been in contact with Kristin Duethorn from Quest Martial Arts—the date for the workshop has not yet been set. 
 New Business • Cailin reported that the Eastern CT Conservation Dept. is running a program to install rain barrels and rain gardens and provide education on conservation issues. The library is considering a possible partnering with the school. • The board discussed possible Summer Reading prizes. • The library will hold the annual plant sale in June.   
 Treasurer’s Report • The Key Bank account has been closed and funds transferred to the Savings Institute account.  
 Librarians’ Report • Cailin Rae reported that the Mother’s Day activity was successful with ten children participating; ceramic dishes were painted. Cailin is planning a Father’s Day program.
 
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 7:00 p.m. 
 
Ellen Silbermann made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:09 p.m. Gillian Zieger seconded the motion. It passed and the meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m.
