Selectmen’s Meeting August 20, 2018 Union, Connecticut
First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7: 33 p.m.
Attending: Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck; Mary Huda
Minutes from the August 6, 2018 meeting were read. Selectman Huda made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.
Bills were presented for review. Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Correspondence: Letter from Selectmen thanking Boy Scouts of America Venture Crew for new sign installation at the Union Free Public Library.
Letter from Selectmen thanking Karen Calabrese for coordinating Old Home Day.
The Board of Selectmen accepted a letter of resignation from Library Board member Gillian Zieger. The Board also received a letter from Ellen Silbermann, Library Board Chairman, requesting two appointments to the Library Board of Directors.
Following discussion, Selectman Heck made a motion to appoint Joshua Lambert to fill the vacancy left by Gillian Zieger on the Union Free Public Library Board of Directors, effective immediately until the end of term, July 1, 2023. The motion was seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Selectman Heck also made a motion to appoint Karen Calabrese to fill a vacancy on the Union Free Public Library Board of Directors, effective immediately until the end of term, July 1, 2019. The motion was seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
Old Home Day, held on Saturday, August 18, 2018, went very well. There were new exhibits, good attendance and the return of the afternoon baseball game. A letter was signed by the Selectmen, thanking Karen Calabrese for coordinating a successful and enjoyable event.
The Cemetery Committee met on August 20, 2018, to discuss pending recommendations to the Board of Selectmen for fee increases.
Following discussion of a town electronic data archival system, Selectman Heck made a motion to contract with Christopher Nelson of System Solutions of N.E., LLC, to set up and monitor town system back-up for the amount of $375.00 per year for 50 Gb of storage. Motion was seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
The Community Room/Kitchen and Town Grove/Pavilion rental application amendments were reviewed and discussed. Selectman Heck made a motion to adopt the amendments to the Community Room/Kitchen and Town Pavilion/Grove applications as proposed, including fee increase to $50.00, along with an addition to the signature statement that the renter has read the personal liability insurance information provided by the Town for their scheduled event. Motion was seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
A proposed Sexual Harassment Policy for the Town of Union employees was reviewed and revised. Proposed revisions will be considered and finalized at the September 4 meeting.
First Selectman Eaton will be attending a workshop on Ethics, Accountability, and Conflicts of Interest for Municipalities on September 5, 2018. The Board will begin work on the Town of Union Code of Ethics following this training.
