Selectmen’s Meeting                               February 19, 2019                        Union, Connecticut

 

First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7: 30 p.m.

 

Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda

 

Minutes from the February 4, 2019 meeting were read. Selectman Heck made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by First Selectman Eaton. 2 in favor, 1 abstention. Motion carried.

 

Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.

 

Correspondence:  Report on investigation at NECCOG regarding Animal Services complaints, with findings that allegations were unfounded.

                                     Request from The Last Green Valley for municipal contribution to support Walktober 2019. Selectman Heck made a motion to contribute $200, payable from Selectman’s Expense Acct 1110-200, to The Last Green Valley; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.

 

Following discussion regarding capital improvements, Selectman Heck made a motion to approve Peter Tucker to paint the interior of the upper level at the Town Hall, at the quoted cost of $2,500, payable from funds donated to the Town by the Norcross Wildlife Foundation; motion seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.

The proposed LoCIP Grant projects are: Installation of air conditioning at the Historical Society; painting the exterior of the Historical Society building; installation of air conditioning in the Town Hall Community Room; and possible improvements at the Union Free Public Library.

 

The HEART Safe Community presentation will be held at the Town Hall on Monday, March 18 at 6:00 PM.

 

Efficiency Lighting consultants are preparing a proposal for converting the Town Hall interior lighting to LED. The Town Garage lighting has been converted to LED with good results.

 

First Selectman Eaton will be meeting with the Headmaster at Woodstock Academy regarding tuition increases and capital improvement assessment for 2019-2020.

 

First Selectman Eaton is working on a proposal for changes to the health insurance benefits offered to full time Public Works employees.

 

The Board discussed the options for replacing the Town dump truck.

 

Motion to adjourn at 8:55 p.m. by Selectman Heck; seconded by First Selectman Eaton.  Vote was unanimous.
