UNION BOARD OF EDUCATION                   January 8, 2020  

 

CALL TO ORDER

     The meeting was called to order by A. Estell at 6:35 p.m.

 

PRESENT

  1. A. Estell, J. Garden, H. Bradway, L Roberts, J. Reardon, Supt., S. Jackopsic, Prin., L. MacPherson, recording secretary, teachers: M. Huda & K. Paine.    J. Petersen arrived later.  Not in attendance: A. Blank.   

     

     APPROVAL OF MINUTES

  1. J. Garden made a motion to approve the minutes from December 16, 2019.   Seconded by L. Roberts. Unanimously approved.

    COMMUNICATIONS

  1.  None    

     

    ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

  1. Superintendent’s Report  Joe said they have been working on next year’s budget & he explained the budget process.  He has attended various Superintendent meetings.      
  2. Principal’s Report  Steve said we had a very nice winter concert & art show shortly before our December vacation. Our energy audit report should be ready by the beginning of February.  There will be a Woodstock Academy presentation for parents on January 29. 

     

    COMMITTEE REPORTS 

  1. Curriculum  no new info     
  2. Communications  H. Bradway distributed to the Board Highlights of the CT Freedom of Information Act presentation.  She went to an informational meeting concerning this.  She shared with the Board what was discussed at this meeting.    
  3. Transportation  no new info    
  4. Personnel  We will be conferring with our attorney about the early retirement incentive(for Teachers’ Association)  over the next couple of months.         
  5. Building  no new info
  6. EASTCONN  no new info   

        

    FINANCIAL REPORT

  1.  Review of bills. Andrea & Joe reviewed the bills & also the Board. Everything was in order.      

     

  2. 2019-20 Budget  Everything is on course for our budget. 

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

  1. 2020-2021 Board of Ed Budget-Possible Adjustments  The Budget was discussed at length.  L. Roberts made a motion to cut: $5000 from Instructional Improvement, $18955 from Maintenance & Repair, $14500 from bus transportation, $6200 from Superintendent salary & $10000 from health insurance for a total of $54,655 in reductions to the 2020-2021 Board of Education Budget.  This will bring the District Budget to $2,116,041.  Seconded by J. Garden. Unanimously approved.              

     

    NEW BUSINESS

  1. None

     

    INDIVIDUALS TO BE HEARD

              

             M. Huda had a few comments about possible reduction in force.

         Motion by L. Roberts to adjourn at 8:53 p.m. Seconded by J. Garden. Passed unanimously.
