Selectmen’s Meeting                                       December 16, 2019                        Union, Connecticut

 

 First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7: 45 p.m.

 

Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton, David Heck, Mary Huda

 

Persons to be Heard:  None

 

Minutes from the December 2, 2019 meeting were read. Selectman Huda made a motion to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.

 

Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Heck made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Huda.  Vote was unanimous.

           

Correspondence:  NDDH Orientation for elected officials

                               Email regarding approval of grant for National Register of Historic Preservation

                               Memo requesting Tourism District Committee member

                               Letter regarding Dog Pound

                               Norcross gift of $2,500.00 received for unrestricted Town use. First Selectman Eaton made a motion to accept this amount and place it into the Capital Projects account for future use; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.

                              Tolland County Chamber of Commerce

 

New Business:

 

New email provider information was discussed. The Office 365 service includes email service and Office apps. First Selectman Eaton will follow up with Tom Schenking from EastConn Technology Solutions.

 

David Eaton, Public Works Director, has proposed removal of the phone line in the Transfer Station. Following discussion, Selectman Heck made a motion to remove the phone. Seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.

 

Selectman Huda made a motion to approve the following resolution:

 

RESOLVED, that the Town of Union may enter into with and deliver to the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security any and all documents which it deems to be necessary or appropriate; and

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, that David D. Eaton, as First Selectman of the Town of Union, is authorized and directed to execute and deliver any and all documents on behalf of the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Union and to do and perform all acts and things which he deems to be necessary or appropriate to carry out the terms of such documents, including, but not limited to, executing and delivering all agreements and documents contemplated by such documents.

 

Motion seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.

The State of Connecticut STEAP Grant will become available to Towns in 2020. First Selectman Eaton reviewed previous grant proposals, unfulfilled when the grant was no longer available, including reclaiming and paving a portion of Stickney Hill Road and updating the Transfer Station.

 

The Board expressed their thanks to the Calabrese Family for donation of the lining for the Town ice skating rink, located at the Union School basketball court.

 

Old Business:

 

The Public Works and Selectmen’s Proposed 2020-2021 Budgets were reviewed and discussed.

Selectman Heck made a motion to approve said Budgets and forward them to the Board of Finance.

Motion was seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.

 

Motion to adjourn at 9:25 p.m. by Selectman Heck; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.
