Town Meeting Warning for July 8, 2024, 7:30 PM

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A TOWN MEETING OF THE ELECTORS AND CITIZENS QUALIFIED TO VOTE IN TOWN MEETINGS OF THE TOWN OF UNION, CONNECTICUT will be held in the Town Room at the Union Town Hall, 1043 Buckley Highway, Union, Connecticut on July 8, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss and vote (by paper ballot) on the following items:

  1. Shall the Town of Union vote to approve the Transfer of $70,850.00 from the General Fund into Capital Improvements account, to be used for the Town’s Municipal Match for STEAP award 0145-0108.

TOWN OF UNION CONNECTICUT

Union was the last town to be settled east of the Connecticut River, largely because of its rough terrain and poor soil. In 1633, John Oldham, an adventurer from Massachusetts, obtained specimens of black lead or graphite from the Indians. During the Revolutionary War Governor Trumbull tapped this valuable resource for use at cannon foundries. On July 1, 1720 the General Assembly sold 12,500 acres to 12 proprietors for 307 pounds, comprising the area that is now Union.
