Selectmen’s Meeting                       August 21, 2017                              Union, Connecticut


First Selectman Eaton called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.


Attending:  Selectmen – David D. Eaton., Mary E. Huda, David Heck


Persons to be heard: Representative Pat Boyd, Board of Finance Chairman Christopher Santucci


Minutes from the last meeting were read. Selectman Heck moved to accept the minutes, amended as follows: “conceder” changed to “consider”; NECOG is “NECCOG”; seconded by Selectman Huda. Vote was unanimous.


Bills were presented for review.  Selectman Huda made the motion to pay the bills as presented; seconded by Selectman Heck.  Vote was unanimous.


State Representative Boyd and Board of Finance Chairman Santucci met with the Board of Selectmen to discuss Governor Malloy’s revisions to the State 2017-2018 Budget. As per the latest proposed revisions, all State funding to the Town of Union has been eliminated. Representative Boyd committed to keeping the Town informed of updates, as occurring, regarding this issue. The Town and residents are encouraged to reach out to the Governor’s office and our representatives and leaders, continuing to press for a resolution to this budget crisis.


At this point, the Selectmen and Board of Finance Chairman Christopher Santucci advised that the Department of Public Works continue with scheduled road maintenance and oiling.


The Invasive Species Grant was discussed. The Lake Association and Solitude Lake Management are in process of treating Mashapaug Lake for milfoil before winter.


The Board reviewed the current Town employment application form. It was determined that updates need to be made and they will review the application to make the changes at the next Selectmen’s meeting.


Town Treasurer Amanda Gaug updated the Board with information for offering Town employees direct deposit. Selectman Huda made a motion to move forward with the Direct Deposit option for Town Employees; seconded by Selectman Heck. Vote was unanimous.


First Selectman Eaton met with Joseph Boucher of Towne Engineering. He reviewed the information for the Storm Water Discharge Permit with the Board.


First Selectman Eaton also met with NECCOG Director John Filchak. He reviewed with the Board discussion regarding the GIS Viewer and Federal grant opportunities for a new Elder Bus for the Town.


There are funds available through a Local Capital Improvement Fund, funded by Town Clerk fees. First Selectman Eaton discussed possible options to improve Town Hall Security.


Motion to adjourn at 9:02 p.m. by Selectman Huda; seconded by Selectman Heck.  Vote was unanimous.
