Union Free Public Library Board of Directors Meeting Minutes 9-13-17 
 Members present: Ellen Silbermann, Rose Novak, Gillian Zieger, Bertha Syphers, Ed Capomacchio, Library Director Cailin Rae and Assistant Librarian Donna Jellen 
The meeting was called to order at 6:58 p.m.  
The Board welcomed new BOD members Ed Capomacchio and Bertha Syphers. 
Old Business • 2017 Community Programs: On August 10, Tim Keeney, Judge of Probate, held a workshop on Advance Directives. The program was well attended. He gave a presentation on his experiences as a Navy Seal followed by a detailed and informative workshop on Advance Directives. He provided booklets with forms as well as useful information. A photocopy can be made at the library. • Old Home Day: The library raised $430.  • CIPA compliance: Cailin Rae reported that the library’s application is currently under review.  
 New Business • Ellen Silbermann reviewed the library’s yearly schedule of activities, events, programs, and reporting for the new board members.  • The board discussed possibilities for future community programs such as potential workshops on credit identity theft and internet safety for children. • Ways to use the memorial donations were considered. Ellen Silbermann made a motion to spend $115 on a memorial plaque. Rose Novak seconded the motion and it passed. • The date for the Halloween Party will be determined so as not to conflict with the Union School’s party.  
Treasurer’s Report • Rose Novak provided banking updates.   
 Librarians’ Report • Cailin Rae reported that circulation numbers for the summer were strong. While June and July were similar to last year’s numbers, August came in higher than in 2016. • Summer Reading 2017: Winners will be announced at the school assembly on September 21. Cailin will also create a poster for the library listing all the summer reading winners. • CCAR is working well again. • The winner of the OHD quilt raffle will be announced at the October meeting.  
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.  
Ellen Silbermann made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:23 p.m. Gillian Zieger seconded the motion. It passed and the meeting was adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
